Doom 4 - annouced on www.idsoftware.com May 2008

Production
has begun on DOOM 4 , the next journey into the legendary DOOM
universe.
(Well Doom 1 and 2 were great , doom 3 was utter garbage )
We are expanding our internal team and are currently hiring
to work on this highly anticipated title.
(more people to code back into doom 4 coop and release proper sads program and a linux client ?)
"DOOM is part of the
id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in
the
industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to
Earth," said Todd Hollenshead,
CEO, id Software. "It's critical for id
Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop
games that
meet the standards synonymous with our titles."
The DOOM
franchise is one of the most recognizable and important in gaming
history, having been
named "one of the ten most influential games of
the decade" by PC Gamer and "the #1 game of all time"
by GameSpy. DOOM
4 will join the award-winning series which has consistently topped
sales charts
throughout the world.

Personaly I dont have many high hopes for Doom 4 after seeing the utter crap
that Quake 4 and Doom 3 worked out to be , both had
COOP REMOVED as a built in feature
, both supported consoles ,
Doom 3 had ugly graphics with limited colours .
What do people think of the upcoming Doom 4 game for PC ?
Can it show real game play before bling and bring back the real doom feeling
that doom 1 and doom 2 (and its exp packs) had ?
Will it support opengl ?
Will it have built in LAN and online coop with EIGHT to 16 players ?
Will it have a proper seperate stand alone dedicated server ?
Will it have a working game browser unlike so many incompete games lately ?
Will it have huge system requirments ?
Will it be worth supporting ID once
again were as I found Doom 3 and Quake 4
wasnt worth supporting

To my huge disapointment both Flomp and DB have droped AVI XVID
and now using bloody h264 which doesnt work on dvd players like ROWA
or my new little usb tv out gadget .
Ohh BTW H264 sucks the big time
Looks like theirs a niche market for a new fansub group to pickup
the slack and offer AVI XVID fansubs of bleach and Naturo
in 175 meg FULL SCREEN 4:3 format.
Cross fingers and toes in hope that SD can come to the rescue

Ive been using Ubuntu v8.04 Linux recently on my gaming PC recently
OMFG Why doesnt linux have Portable apps like Windows ... GRRR
Almost got DC++ working in Linux the way I want , it just
crash's since its a odd release I converted from a RPM to a DEB
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/9862/dcpplinux27april2008jh8.png
Still it connects and works with Windows DC++ 0.261 and Windows DC++ 0.674
just it CRASH's once I try to share files under Linux
Anyone out their have any luck with DC++ under Linux ?

Linux Tube Website - Video tutorials for Linux OS/free software ,etc
http://www.linux-tube.com/
This looks like an interesting website in alpha stage that hopefully
turns out very well , it looks like at the current time has some
free tutorial guides on linux releated things and a few linux ads

Instead of using Bit Torrent , Windows File sharing or setting up FTP servers
on each PC at Lan Parties . I suggest using DC++
DC++ is a FREE open source file transfering program which was made
to REPLACE the spyware infested officall program
that NO LONGER EXISTS any more
DC++ is on Windows , Linux and Mac and its cross platform
You can transfer data between each other on different OS's
as long as you connect to the same DC++ server .
Example of DC++ below:

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8218/cbaudcspeedexamplegigabyh8.jpg
How to use DC++:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/486050
http://www.b.ali.btinternet.co.uk/DCPlusPlus/gettingStarted.html
http://www.dc-resources.com/guide.htm
Tips on better DC++ use:
- Instead of using stock default Win2000/XP/2003 use Nlited Windows
- Run XPY while running Windows to speed up things
- Use Internet updated drivers for your Motherboard and Network card ,
avoid using Microsofts built in drivers
- TURN OFF QOS
- DEFRAG YOUR HDD regulary
- DONT Transfer MULTI files at the same time (VERY BAD , slows down everything)
- Pre hash DC++ before turning up to the lan
By the looks of the official (finally) announcement of
Red Alert 3 http://www.ea.com/redalert/press_release.jsp
I am going to say its going to be crap which is a shame
Red Alert 1 (PC) and Red Alert 2 (PC) are GREAT FUN games .
Releasing a RTS on a console is a BAD IDEA it will only result
in watered down game play , slower movement and
reduced multi player player amount.
If you look at all the other game series that EA games
have ruined over the years its no surpirse that this series
would get effected as well.
I supported buying Red Alert 1 and 2 and one of the exp packs
I doubt Ill support Red Alert 3 (PC)
co-operative campaign play is something that a LOT OF PEOPLE
wanted with Red Alert 1 and 2 its a shame it took this long to add it.
With the watered down process are they going to downgrade
from 8 players in Multiplayer to 4 or actually shock gamers
and increase it to 12 or 16
A standalone dedicated server is a must . I remember playing
RA2 games from Friday night to Sunday (yes the same game
session with sleep/eat breaks) the game would slow RIGHT
down after a while.
I guess only time will tell with the leak of the beta (no doubt it will be leaked)
and the release of the Demo and retail

------------------------------------
For anyone that has never played Red Alert 1 or Red Alert 2 on PC I suggest getting it
trying it out before playing Red Alert 3 gets released
