Charliebrownau Astroboy Rant - 80's series vs revamped 2009 movie
Astro boy is one of those really retro awesome cartoon (Animation with USA english dub) shows back in the 80's I watched when I was younger growing up . Other great shows on TV at that time was Voltron , Transformers , Monkey Magic and Dr who with Tom Baker.
Astro boy for the un educated that has never had the great experince of watching the show is a fictional cartoon series about a Robot Kid designed by a professor that ends up fighting crime . He has rockets that come out of his feet to allow him to fly , laser that fires out of his finger and machine gun in his butt .
For more information Wiki has a great entry on the series
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astro_Boy_(1980_TV_series)

I just came across a Astro Boy 2009 Movie mentioned on IMDB and looking at the pics its truely been americanised , which is a shame . What was wrong with the 80's look which (I cant confirm) might of followed the proper manga look .
Info on the 2009 remake on:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astro_Boy_(film)
and
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375568/

The dates of the release of the movie on IMDB currently list only a few countries :
| Japan | 23 October 2009 | |
| USA | 23 October 2009 | |
| Turkey | 30 October 2009 | |
| Brazil | 20 November 2009 |
So it wouldnt take much to image that the Australian local release is going to be Nov-Dec-Jan
but you never know it could come out in AU in Oct 2009 .
Today (11 Feb 2009) I have two different people comment on two different posts
and both comments were the same:
[this is good]

My views on Anime and USA Dubs Vs Fansubs and Anime legit in Australia
I recently talked to a person that didn't like my views on Anime and I would like to express my views publicly
you might not like them but everyone has their own choices , views and tastes . I don't like the taste of coke
for example , but its very popular , does that make me right or wrong . No , it means I have my own choice of dislike
and likes and others have their own. The Whole Population does not have to like the same thing.
USA Dubs vs Asian Audio with Subs (Fansub or licensed)
I only like Asian made Anime in Asian Speaking Language and subs.
(I do enjoy some [not all] American and non asian cartoons , eg Lilo and Stitch,
Transformers, astro boy, new starwars tv show)
(Anime as I define is Cartoon Animation that comes from Asian , starts off in Audio Language ,
is subbed and then altered and changed [names, voices, references] to suit USA childreen/USA
people market then takes longer to filter to non USA english speaking places, eg Australia)
Just to Clarify again :-
Cartoon = Animation (TV/Media) in English as its original audio source, animation made in USA/non asia
Comic Book = Physical Book that depicks with pictures and words a story line without animation, made in USA/non asia
Anime = Animation (TV/Media) in Asian (Japanese) as its original audio source, animation made in asia
then re 'licensed' to USA to be altered , edited , changed and USA voice dub's added for world wide English
speaking market
Manga = Physical Book that depicks with pictures and words a story line without animation, made in asia
(Note: The amount of times in my life that people call Manga , anime is VERY BIG and VERY ANNOYING after the 100'th time)
Why I don't support buying ""USA licensed Anime" in Australia
Note: COST is not main factor of the issue
- I don't support buying anime that has DUEL (both) American USA Dubs and Asian Subs.
I want to support anime in its original format with subs added without american voices at all on the media
- Anime companies in USA/AU dont support the English speaking Market that wants subbed legit anime , why support them ?
- I don't want to support anime that takes a HUGE LONG TIME to go from Asia , to USA , to AU (1 to 6 years)
- I don't want to support australian anime re distrubution companies that dont support the market of anime watchers
that dont want to support subs only anime media
- Cost - Start off cheaper (just like USA movie/tv discs) , a lot of series are 10 to 25 eps . Now when you look at TV show boxsets lately a season (11 to 22-25) is like 25 to 70 bucks . Why can't anime be like that from the begining ?
Digital Download:-
- If I could buy/pay for the latest Asian Anime eps at AU$0.05 cents to AU$1.00 via Digital Download
I would consider it . Considering Bleach would be the first series I would support and often with it
its 25 eps per ARC (not season) then 25 bucks for 25 eps would be like a USA DVD Boxset.
At the moment most digital download anime is via USA based companies and its old shows which I have no interested in , they are old , chances are its OVER and finished and I could get it on Retail DVD.
The whole point I find of Digital Download is to support something at the SAME time around the world at a REDUCED PRICED then the Retail cost (shop bought) and FASTER then waiting for Retail market.
What I am saying and not saying
Offer choice for the Anime English speaking market :-
Sure release Animation thats made in Asia with USA voice dubs and very low quality dubs by USA companies BUT
- START TO OFFER ANIME DIRECT FROM ASIAN COMPANIES with subs THEY put on their own ANIME and export
to USA/AU/English speaking countries AHEAD of time of the Dub'ed releases and offer the non USA dubb'ed releases
CHEAPER to the legit market .
- Release Anime season boxsets cheaper without USA Dubs in Australia and USA
(Also clearly label these boxsets displaying warning like NO ENGLISH AUDIO
so idiots dont buy it then bitch ,ohh no series xzy i got cheap off this company has no english audio)
- Release Anime Movies with Eng Subs at the same time the Movie comes out in Asia
EG Bleach and Naruto , I would of enjoyed to pay to see the Bleach and Naruto movies
at the local Brisbane Movies then WAIT A YEAR too YEAR and 6 months to watch it.
- Release Anime a lot faster in Australia and NO not everyone enjoys watching Dragon Ball Z on AU TV in the morning
(actually some people watching that show feel like throwing up)
Update:
Just reading about upcoming Bleach Anime Upcoming eps and its a typical example what I am saying , notice
the R2 (Japan) DVD's and its date you can buy them , yet the USA ones are FARRRRRRRRR behind
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bleach_episodes#Season_10:_2008_-_2009
A USA persons blog post on giving up on fansubs and going legit (not that I share the persons views):

The End of VHS in 2008
- DVD Video Discs are still strong in the Retail Market
- High Def Discs (Blueray) arent that popular.
History:-
VHS was invented by JVC and then Sony released Betamax (better but VHS won).
Then VHS VCR's ended up using licensed Sony Techonology in the VCR's to make
VHS tapes and VHS VCR's better
Apprently there "Digital-VHS"(D-VHS), (never took off thou)
records digital high definition video onto a VHS form factor tape.
D-VHS can record up to 4 hours of ATSC Digital Television in 720p or 1080i
formats using the fastest record mode (equivalent to VHS-SP), and
up to 40 hours of standard definition video at slower speeds .
DVD format - The DVD-Video format was introduced first, in
1996 in Japan,
1997 in USA
1998 in Euro
1999 in Australia.
Media Retail Company's still don't get the picture .
People didn't start buying VCR's in huge numbers till they got cheap
People didn't start buying DVD Players in huge numbers till they got cheap
People didn't start buying Movies on VHS in huge numbers till they got cheap
People didn't start buying Movies on DVD in huge numbers till they got cheap
People started buying more DVD's in value packs since they are cheap
People are slow to migrate to new techonology , if the current thing works
with your tv/screen , quality is fine , why move .
If it needs a whole new screen people arn't that to happy about it
Compression changing on computers also .
Mpeg 1 was used a lot in Video CD's and Mpeg 2 was used in Video CD's
and Mpeg 2 was used in DVD Video Disc's .
(Mpeg 2 used in the first blueray discs also before protection added)
AVI 700meg instead of VHS/DVD video disc
Early 1998-2002 I started to see a lot of Divx 3.11 movies
(Ohh look at that its the time DVD was released overseas and not AU)
Divx 3.11 was a FREE Codec hacked from an microsoft one (DIFFERENT FROM DIVX 5/6/7)
Then around 2002-2003 , XVID became the standard in compression and Divx 3.11 was getting phased out.
Today XviD supports movies from VHS Tape , DVD Video Discs , TV SD , TV HD , TV High def 720.
If you want to see a lot of media released in XVID AVI format , then view the following websites

Info:
Bella Swan is a clumsy, kind hearted teenager with a knack for getting into trouble.
Edward Cullen is an intelligent, good looking vampire who is trying to hide his secret.
Against all odds, the two fall in love but will a pack of blood thirsty trackers and the
disapproval of their family and friends separate them?
My view:
Teen girl falls in love with vampire
Wait isnt that like dozen of shows and movies already
eg Buffy The Vampire Slayer , eg True Blood ?
Still cute girl and vampires , ill watch it :-)
If I knew it was on in the AU movies yesterday I would
of went to see it in the CBD/Southbank . Ohh well.
