Simcity 5 - Societies (PC) annouced for USA release in Nov 2007

It will be interesting how a game like Simcity that was primary Single player
focus released on the C64, Amiga and MS DOS (PC) will turn out now

Hopefully it wont need a Pixelshader 3 video card , Directx 10 or Vista .

C&C3 - 2gig Multiplayer Only Slim Install tip by Charliebrownau:

C&C3 is a Duel Layer DVD (8gig) but once it installs it uses about
6 gig on the Hard Drive . I have found by DELETING the 3 movie
files that get used for Single player the game folder is now 2.1 gig

The movie files are in :
x:\path\Command & Conquer 3\Movies\1.0\

You could go a step further and remove the single player maps
which takes up 255 MB of disk space:
x:\path\Command & Conquer 3\SP\1.0\SPMaps.big

Just tested the game after deleting the SP maps , the tutorial does NOT work either !
The game folder is now about 1.9 gig in size !  So if you just want to play Multiplayer and
save 4 gig of free space feel free to delete those files awell.

Note: I didnt use any no intro patchs/cracks/programs , once you delete the movie files ,
 it wont show the EA LOGO when loading the game.

Battlefield 2142 Demo Review

EA games loves spaming out the same set of games time and time again .
NFS , Battlefield , sports games, etc ...This verison of Battlefield is a clone of ETQW.
Which is a war game , based in the future with mechs ( hang on isnt that tribes LOL)

Demo released
=============
The Demo was released on EA Games FTP , Fileplanet.com , 3dgamers.com
and for Australian people it is shared on a few local isp free traffic websites.
Gameareana managed to get it mirrored very quick .
( GA being the gaming area for Bigpond isp customers to get free traffic)
I was about to request it mirrored when it was already avail  
probly due to some EA Games partner/affli program or something
or someone that  Bigpond/GA user requesting it via GA and knowing the direct link)

Installing
==========

I installed the Demo on Friday night around 6ish after
it took about a hour to download on Bigpond Cable.

I didnt have any trouble installing it , like most games I had to point it too
C:\games\xxxxx instead of C:\Program Files\

I have an updated verison of DirectX9c always, so I didnt get the missing Dx...dll error.
(probly the only update really needed for Windows besides Worm Traffic patchs)
 
During the Installation phase you will see what files its copying from the compressed exe
to the hard drive path , one thing I noticed was its directory setup , its placing BF2142 as
a mod for BF2 ( Same thing that happended to BFV , it was a standalone MOD [aka exppack]
for BF1942)

EA Games still annoys customers with their crapy intro movies
=============================================================
With every 'EA Games' game you will quiclky find to save hassle of
seeing the same crap time and time again  they are command lines to bypass
the movies or you can delete the movies or use a nointro mod file from the net
from places like gamecopyworld or megagames.

One addition to the intro crap is the Titan mode tutorial, which was good
if you didnt see the trailer before .

To BYPASS INTRO Movies :
Goto drive:\path\Battlefield 2142 Demo\mods\bf2142\Movies\
Delete Dice.bik , EA.bik , Legal.bik , Legal_na.bik , titan_tutorial.bik

or MOVE them to another FOLDER eg I moved mine to :
C:\Games\Battlefield 2142 Demo\mods\bf2142\Movies\backup

Game Login Screen
==============

It needs a wangy online account. I used the retive account and password thing and
it worked Probly from having played the BF2 Demo and NFSU2 Demo before and the
ea games account was still valid.

Server Browser
==============

One thing I noticed was that LAN and single player Was greyed out/disabled
Great an ONLINE only Demo. GRRRRR ....

** Still another game that doesnt block joining servers above 150 ping

Internode and GA had some servers up , which were almost full when I join
( Note that the pic below was taken after I first tryed it ).

In the game
============

Upon connecting to a server you get the simular type screen as all BF games
That hasnt really changed that much . They give a little bit of info to let you know
whats going on and a small picture of the map.

Once it finishes loading and conncting to the server it will then pop up what class and weapon lay out
you want to choose , simular to the other BF games.

Ive never been teamkilled more in the whole 12 years of playing Multiplayer FPS on the PC,
then this BF2142 game . Why do FPS games keep on having Friendly fire on . GRRRRR

You would think in the future with mechs and space craft , that solders would learn not to TK
(ops their probly americans , they do that quite well) or have some sort of cool
space laser gun that doesnt fire if aimed at a teammate.

Yet another Battlefield game that online public servers their is NO TEAMWORK
NO TEAM TEXT Chatter , NO Voice Chatter in Teamspeak or builtin.

Even thou the demo asked to setup the mic in the installer , voice chat doesnt work .

BF2142 is another one of these rank games with unlock stuff (like CSS and BF2)
were the more you play get get a wanky rank on stats server and it unlocks weapons

BF2 demo had a simular thing but their was hack patch to fix that .
No hack for the BF2142 was avail at the time , so everyone used default weapons

Weapon stregth is UTTER CRAP . Bad selection of weapons . No proxy/trip mines .
No genades . For a future game , it seems to have guns simular to UT2004 actually.

I jumped into a mech , it seems slow and the guns dont seem to do anything to most things
Nor does the tank , it seems like a utter waste of time .

 

Spawning in the titan (aka big ship) you get the same problem aswith ALL battlfield games
people take the vechiles/ships/tanks without waiting for others to get onboard.
I found you can jump out to a base below , but 9 button doesnt work as parshoot anymore ,
its now space bar **GRRR**. Also parshoot landing seems very wangy with a breif moment
that you cant see much around you at all .

Engineer character selection seems to be the best choice I found . A spray machine gun
and a rocket laucher that does seem to be picky on what it can shoot .

At times the weapons are so bloody anoying , im sure that throwing a stone or hitting
a person with a stick would do more dammage .

Titan mode seems like Capture and hold mode in Fear Combat , which is basicly like CTF
without the flag and its multiple bases . Very simular to the battlefield "conquest mode'

At different points the mech animation stuffs up and you cant hear its legs moving
or see the legs moving ..

Direct X issue
==============

The first thing I noticed after reading some sites and forums is the amount of
WANKERS that havent got an updated DirectX9c copy , yet these would be the same
idoits that use Windows update, Starforce protected games, AVG antivirus and toolbars.

Theirs about 3 to 6 different verisons of DirectX9c.
Apprently EA games didnt want to inculde it (about 30megish) since it would increase the file
size ( WTF its like a 1.1 gig already , like 30 meg would make a difference)

At KA lan heaps of people (about 8 to 10 people ) had the EXTACT same error message
that BF 2142 bitchs about with Flatout2 , which is the game is missing some Direct X ddl
 file ( Which means install the latest copy of DX9c)

Overall Impression
==================

Utter CRAP , BUGY , No teamwork with players , No commincation between players
the sqaud commands issued almost go un noticed .
They keep on making BF for the no skill random noobs.
