Today (19-June-2008) I bought an Linksys SLM2008 8 Port gigabit switch
from Umart ( www.umart.com.au ) .
I am impressed with it , costing AU$135.00 (US$128) (Yen$13775.60)
it seems to be ultra quite , only using 6 watts , no noisy fan and
with a test transfer it copies over at the same speed as the old Minatar .

A lot of people that know me in real life and have meet me would of seen
my old 8 and 5 port Minatar . What happened to them .
The 5 port is playing up and the 8 port was RUINED at a really ULTRA
BAD lan I attended called 'Gateway LAN (http://www.gatewaylans.com)
Due to having to move the PC's several times at the lan , having a
person put in cables so hard it wouldnt come out and the POWER
spike on the powerboard with new ppl pluging stuff in it KILLED
my switch . Did the admins even applogised . NOPE
Did they offer to pay to get it fixed or a new one . NOPE
Then after 2 hrs of moving my pc around , trying different lan
leads (power spike killed a lead aswell) and FINALY
getting up and running which took 2 HOURS .
I get BOOTED and BANNED from the event by some
guy that turned up later in the event which apprently
was the top guy to it .
Getting kicked out of a lan is one thing but to
stay their for 2 hrs , help them setup tables
and chairs and then get asked 5 mins after I
finaly got up and running was DAMM BLOODY
rude and anoying . The reason they gave was
other admins at a lan I havent been to it 4-5 yrs
bitched to these new lan admins and I had questionable
material on my PC .
Tip -
* Never take your gigabit switch to a Public
lan party
* Never spend the time to help
the admins for free to help setup chairs/tables
* Never goto a LAN that is run by Church people
(Ive been to lans at church's with admins NOT being church people
they are GREAT)
Instead of using Bit Torrent , Windows File sharing or setting up FTP servers
on each PC at Lan Parties . I suggest using DC++
DC++ is a FREE open source file transfering program which was made
to REPLACE the spyware infested officall program
that NO LONGER EXISTS any more
DC++ is on Windows , Linux and Mac and its cross platform
You can transfer data between each other on different OS's
as long as you connect to the same DC++ server .
Example of DC++ below:

Tips on better DC++ use:
- Instead of using stock default Win2000/XP/2003 use Nlited Windows
- Run XPY while running Windows to speed up things
- Use Internet updated drivers for your Motherboard and Network card ,
avoid using Microsofts built in drivers
- TURN OFF QOS
- DEFRAG YOUR HDD regulary
- DONT Transfer MULTI files at the same time (VERY BAD , slows down everything)
- Pre hash DC++ before turning up to the lan
