Currently using Debian Linux on my Gaming Box since Ive been using another OS to diag a problem with that box
(I figured out that on the weekend I let a few people use my gaming box while i was sleeping/working and it was connected to the Dell CRT which can handle fancy res rates that the Asus LCD cant, will reboot and fix that )
While in Linux I took the time to install a program called "netspeed" which is a DUmeter / Netmeter clone
FINALY I FOUND that app on Linux , after downloading a 700 k file without no decent documention I find that that Debain 4.r4 has it bundled with the OS and you add it as an "applet" in the menu bar . GRR annoying.
Long wait for new tech micro gaming PC
I am considering waiting and saving for a new small gaming PC
that is portable to take to Lan Parties on my Pagsta Motobike .
I guess its looking like Aug - Oct 2009 time frame for the new PC
Why so long:
1. new tech is available and cheap . 2. Cant ride the bike till Aug 2009
3. save up pennies
Small to the size of an Asus pundit Case (miniatx mobo)
4 gig of DDR 3 RAM (avail now)
USB 3 (late 2008)
New Firewire 3000 (Due Oct 2008)
10 gig Ethernet onboard or plug in
Cat6a lead
Pci Express v2.0 (v3 is due 2010) video card with Opengl v3.0
Maybe a Blueray Optical Disc burner (high def blank discs not cheap enough yet)
Quad Core Intel CPU with LGA1160 socket pin
Asus EEEPC4G White Linux now costs AU$359 at Umart (Aust) - http://umart.com.au
Good to see price drop before Asus EEE 901 (The one with Atom CPU and 10")
screen comes out .
If anyone is looking for a cheap new PC just to Surf/office suite/email this would be ideal
for them , hook up a au$279 22" screen to it , cheapie keyboard and mouse
and they have a cheap computer that can be restored back to factory default
if they stuff it up

Savage 2: A Tortured Soul (Win/Linux)
16/Jan/2008: S2 games announces the launch of
Savage 2: A Tortured Soul, the FPS/RTS/RPG hybrid sequel to
Savage 1 : The Battle for Newerth
The FULL RETAIL game is FREE to download.
This will offer players five hours of free ONLINE playtime.
After that a one-time fee of $29.99 will upgrade the game
to access unlimited online play. Also this edition will offer
offline single player tutorial, unlimited LAN play.
Savage 2 will NOT need a serial or payed account
for lan play or ofline tutorial mode. (Ideal for lan party gaming)
Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is a fast paced FPS/RTS multiplayer action title
that takes team based game play to another level.
Each match is a war for dominance where two teams of 5 to 17 players from
two factions, beast or humans, attempt to destroy each other. It will take more
than guns to finish the job. Players can choose from an array of units each with
ranged, melee, and special abilities. To close the deal and seal the enemy’s fate, players can take control of the ultimate siege units like the Behemoth or the
Battering Ram used to destroy enemy buildings or even resurrect a burning
demonic Hellbourne. For the more strategic player, each team has one
commander who overlooks the battlefield and manages construction, research,
and issues commands for strategic assaults.

This month:
Its been an interesting month . So many people are upgrading back to 2000/2003/XP since
they didn't research how crap Vista is and now going back to something that works and
doesn't take a 10 ghz CPU and 8 gig of ram to run well .
More people are interested in non Microsoft operating systems - Linux/Freebsd/etc
trying out these Live disc's and trying Linux on USB sticks.

MS Windows "7" in 2009/2010
What to expect well honestly I wouldn't waste time and money on it if
XP and Vista have anything to show what the next editions of Windows is like .
Why change Windows editions , it seems pointless after 2000 or 2003.
New Windows editions (XP/Vista/Windows 7):
Using more ram and resources
Need more hdd space to install
comes on bigger install media
less choice in setup phase
more sevices turned on by default
more insecure
more crap ms drivers
newer edition of IE
newer edition of WMP
newer edition of OE
Newer edition of DirectX
Newer edition of Dotnet
New wanky GUI

ReactOS
This is a great idea , its basicly a reversed engineered Windows
but not done by Microsoft , so at the moment it might look like an old
Windows NT/9x edition of Windows but its slowly getting their.
Once its nice and stable and works with:
Firefox , OpenOffice, Foxit PDF reader , Netmeter, statbar
abiword , DC++ , Thunderbird , Nero , DVDshink then it might be worth
getting people to drop XP and try these free windows lookalike instead
It will work on older hardware better aswell

Sabayon Linux
New edition of Sabayon Linux is coming out and by the looks of things
they are FINALY LISTENING to WHAT PEOPLE WANT
and that is a CHOICE and FREEDOM to choose what
to install on the OS before it preloads crap onto the hdd/system :
Announcing Sabayon Linux Core (Install Method) lxnay Thu Jun 28 11:22:55 2007. Tags: Altro
Sabayon Linux is happy to announce a new way to install Sabayon Linux.
Many people complained (WANTED/REQUESTED) by the lack of a packages selector
by too much bloat on the DVD and, most of all, the lack of a minimal installation.
This is what Sabayon Linux Core Environment is.
